Day 7 - Science, Science, and more Science

Day 7 - Science  Science, and more Science

Good morning. No internet again last night. the kids will finish this post as soon as they can. Everything is going better than could be expected.

Yesterday, we woke up to the usual sounds of forest life and were fed a scrumptious breakfast of eggs, toast with cacao nibs, AMAZING Costa Rican coffee, and rice and beans!
Next, we all continued to plow along with our science experiments, and at around noon, were given a taste of home: HAMBURGERS! Afterwards, we had a few hours to give our brains a much-needed break; most of us used that time to venture off once again to Pulperia Carolina and buy some local ice creams and candy!
Soon thereafter, we were back at it again with our science experiments. My group continued to analyze the effects of varying levels of Escovopsis on a multitude of Atta cephalotes and Acromyrmex colonies, while Nina's group went to the field to conduct an experiment with the ants. I thought it was so amazing to see all of them carrying their leaves. We finished off the night with a dinner of lasagna, salad, and FLAN!

Day 8 - Final Presentations!
This morning we had some of the mouth-watering cinnamon scones from yesterday's coffee break. There was also the best toast and eggs ever. I had four pieces and thought about eating six; along with eggs and beans and watermelon. We simply can't say enough good things about the coffee here! After breakfast, we hurried off to finalize our final presentations and used the rest of the time to practice! All groups did a splendid job presenting and are grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the beauty that is Costa Rica. I wish there was more time to do experiments; the ants are so interesting, and there are so many things left to discover.
Then for lunch we had pasta and garlic bread. After lunch we all went to the shop to buy some cute souvenirs to remember this beautiful place. Sofia bought a hat--she's trying to get into hats which I full-heartedly support--and a deck of cards. I bought a necklace.
Just a little while later, we all made our way to the Mariposario to help the locals develop their butterfly cultivation efforts! I helped gather plants that the butterflies like and even got to - literally -leave my mark here in Costa Rica in the form of my hand print on the Mariposario paved entryway. I got to help make a butterfly trap, and I too left my mark in Costa Rica. So later when I'm famous --obviously I'll be famous--, people will come just to touch my hand
print! ;)

We're looking forward to our final juice, dinner, and dessert here at Finca la Anita! It's our last supper here. :( I'm sad to be leaving. Tomorrow morning, we're off to our final destination: Horizontes!

Love you Mom, Dad, Max, & Mia! <3
And I miss you Louie, Tommy, Tiger, Star, and Farrah. See you soon.
